I figured since we’re giving away a box of these on Episode 101 of the Dog Watch Social Club Cigar Radio that we should actually review the cigar so the lucky winner out there knows what they are getting.
This has fastly become my “go to” cigar or my “cigar of choice” putting future purchases of my old stand by in jeapordy. The Series P from Tatuaje is the milder version of the other Tatuaje lines. It contains the same filler as the Havana VI that Brian reviewed awhile back but the Series P is made up of 60% medium and 40% long filler instead of the full long filler of the Havana VI. I guess its the medium filler that makes the Series P a medium bodied cigar.
Some have said that the flavor is flat and I assume they mean that the cigar doesn’t change. Its flavor profile is static and its simplicity is what I love the most about this cigar. Simple cigar band, classic size, simple flavors that can be enjoyed anytime of day. The flavor profile consists of a sweet natural tobacco flavor with a slight spicey undertone.
In my experience I have run into some burn problems but considering that these were just introduced in October 2006, they can only get better by spending some quality time maturing in the humidor. I just don’t have the patience to do that cause these guys are so addicting. I’ve found myself smoking one after another like I’m some chain smoking cigerette fiend. They are that good! While this maybe the easiest to find Tatuaje line and maybe get overlooked by the success of the other lines, don’t sleep on them. Go now, order from AtlanticCigar.com. Great video. Sounds like another cigar I’m going to have to put on my list of cigars to try. Have to wait a bit, humidors are full 🙁 But I’m solving that problem one cigar at a time. And a great problem it is to have. Although, my wife is giving me a bit of a hard time heh. So time to start smoking and quit collecting. Whoa is me.
But when I’ve got some room, looks like I know where to get a box of replacement cigars.

Interesting review. I’m eager to try this line. One question: With that much cut filler, is aging in the humidor really going to have much impact?

Aging was probably a bad word to use. What I was referring to, I’m not sure if the burn problem is something that is just inherit in all Tatuaje lines or if it goes to having excess moisture in the wrapper of the cigar. Having them sit in the humidor could give it some extra time to shed that excess moisture and give the wrapper a proper moisture level. I’m assuming the cut filler isn’t the cause to the burn problems because the burn problems have been mentioned in most of the other Tatuaje lines.
Jerry…I did some research on this and found that you’re right about most having some burn issues with the Tatuaje lines. I think you’re on the right path with giving the cigar time to balance out its moisture properties.
In the normal context of aging a cigar most think you are referring to improving the taste of the cigar whereas in your review you’re using the term “age” to improve its burn qualities. That wasn’t very clear in the video but makes sense now that you explained it.

Jerry I ordered two boxes from Atlantic this morning. They did give me a hard time on the price but once I told them about the Stogie Review they honored the $70 price you mentioned. Were you not supposed to advertise that price?
I also picked up a pair at my B&M cause I can’t wait for the delivery. Had one at lunch today and I gotta tell you, dead on review! Your sweet natural taste with a spicey undertone and creamy texture translated to a ginger bread type taste. I know “ginger bread” isn’t a common cigar taste but thats what I think it translates too.

Vic, the Tatuajes I’ve had (Havana VI Angeles) burned much better after a few weeks in my humidor at 65%. The same can be said for the Don Pepin Cuban Classics, they all seem to arrive a bit damp.
Jerry, I got a strong aroma of gingerbread several times from the Havana VI Angeles I’ve smoked. So far unique to this line of cigars for me, I’ll have to pick up a Series P next time I’m in the B&M.

I smoked one of the white label robustos yesterday evening, definitely a great cigar for the money… similar taste profile to the red label. Also to note… if burned absolutely perfect.
