Cabaiguan Guapos Maduro

CabMaduro

In my new spot here on Thursdays and thought I’d review the Cabaiguan Guapos Maduro. I loved the El Triunfador which is basically the same blend as the Cabaiguan Maduro just in a lancero size.

For about 2/3 of the cigar, I was very satisfied and was looking forward to a stellar finish. Unfortunately something went wrong in the last 1/3 that really changed my opinion a bit. I still think that if you enjoy a nice maduro flavor profile with a little bit of power behind it, the Cabaiguan Maduro is right up your alley.

Video runs 12:13 and along with the review I share a bit of what’s new in my world.

  1. Nice review Jerry. I agree Cabaiguans are good but not great cigars- in my opinion. That’s not to say others don’t love these guys, they just don’t fit my flavor profile preference like the Tat cabinets do. Anyway, wishing you and the wife all the best. I’ll keep you guys in my prayers. Keep up the great work.

  2. Hi Jerry
Nice review again. Haven’t seen these cigars in any off the shops here, so i can not comment on the cigar. You over there have so many types off cigars, but we have nerly all the Cubans over here. I hope all goes well with your wife and baby . Good Luck

  3. Nice review as always, Jerry. I’ve yet to see this cigar around here, but maybe I’ll find one Friday since I’m headed to a B&M in the city vs. my rednecky hometown shop. I hope all is good with the baby on the way.

Keep up the good work, man.

  4. Hi Jerry, watching this…i can’t help feeling that cigars aren’t always that important…God bless you and your family.

  5. After watching you and Walt for the past couple of months, I can’t help but think of you guys as something more than just internet personalities. I know that with all of us StogieReview junkies rooting for you, things are going to turn out great!!!

  6. Just goes to show – taste is subjective. I love the Cabaiguans. Always appreciate the effort and review – thanks.

  7. Nice review! Sounds like I would probably enjoy these. I will have to keep an eye out for one or two of them.

  8. Nice Review. I too prefer this blend in the Lancero size.

No Torpedo seal here you gotta earn those things!

  9. Great review. I am still trying to get my hands on some El Triunfadors, and cannot wait to try one. Wishing you all the best with the pregnancy/new baby. I’m sure it will all work out fine.

  10. Very nice review! I, like Johnny, have never tried any of the El Triunfadors and think I would like to try them first. This might be a bit much for me, especially the bitterness you talk about.

Good luck with the docs visit!! I am sure you will not let us in suspense on what you are having! Well, you better not anyway 🙂

  11. Hell yeah! Good start with that beard, now let it grow! Oh yeah, and the review was nice too! Keep bugging Brian to do more videos, you two as a duo really works. Also, I liked the “blow your load” comment, not used nearly enough in reviews as far as I’m concerned.

  12. Great review Jerry! I have a couple of these as well as some El Triunfadors that I picked up at the Tat event a few weeks ago. Might have to try them side by side and see what I think. Thanks again for the review.

  13. Hey Jerry, I think any cigar would have a tough time filling the shoes if the Triunfador in your eyes. Just a little constructive criticism, if you post a picture of the cigar above the video you won’t have to block your pretty face for the first two minutes of the video, it’s a little distracting.
BTW the pictures of cigars on the SR look better than most manufacturer’s and retailer’s websites. Great job there.

  14. The Cabaiguans I’ve had have been nice but imo there are better cigars out there for the money. The El Triunfador was a disappointment for me last night. I tossed it with about 4 inches left. Excellent construction but the flavor was average for me.

The Cabaiguan was better than the El Triunfador but for the money, I’d rather pick up some Oliva V.

  15. I’m new (again; was a regular smoker in the 80’s) to cigars and watch every review you guys do. Thanks for putting a little life-perspective in this one. My prayers and best wishes for you both on your new addition.

  16. Great video Jerry and since I’m a Pepin and Pete Johnson fanboi, I’ll try one of these even with the 1.5 thumbs up ahaha. Well, ok, great two thirds of a cigar. And glad to hear you guys got more bandwidth even if it costs more.

So, hmmm, comment love and no cigar give-a-way. Interesting how that still happens!!!! Guess comment love is there just becuase we maybe like the video’s and site 🙂 Food for thought for the forum critics heh.

  17. Jerry,

Nice review, its always good to see some balance, not every cigar can be awesome.

It does kind of suck when you do find a truly fantastic cigar like you describe the MX3 and then have to compare everything else against it, even others from the same box.

Best wishes to you and your wife on the new baby, love the Petit Corona nickname!

  18. Jerry, do yourself a favor and PLEASE do not name your next child after a cigar! This is ridiculous and the poor child would be ridiculed by his/her peers throughout childhood and maybe adulthood. I cannot believe your wife would let you do such a foolish thing unless she is so submissive unto you that she has no say in anything in your marriage.JMO.

  19. John, you fool, he was talking about nicknames. He’s not thinking of naming his child after a cigar. Don’t be so dense.

  20. Great Review as usual Jerry! You “forced” me to go to emerson’s site and order a 5pk of the belicoso sized CAO habanos, just to get the free hat… and maybe to beat you guys to the punch on a review! 😀 J/K.. Great review, as usual. I had one of these at my local shop today, and really enjoyed it. Congrats on the new little one, and I am praying for you and the family brotha!
    Scott

  21. As always, great review Jerry. Congrats on your new baby. I’ve been out of the country so this was welcoming news to me.

By the way, whats the name of that opening song? Sounds so familiar…
