Camacho Liberty 2009

Camacho Liberty 2009

Hope everyone is having a relaxing, enjoyable and safe 4th of July weekend. I’m sure many of you will be smoking a patriotic themed cigar during your 4th of July festivities. I’m no different with the Camacho Liberty 2009.

The Camacho Liberty 2009 is described, according to Camacho, “as an attempt to debunk the 2005 Liberty, which has been touted as the best Camacho Liberty to date.” I wish I could weigh in on that, sadly, the 2005 Liberty isn’t something that I’ve smoked. My experience with the Liberty series only goes back to 2007. So I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to the Liberty series.

Video runs a bit over 17 minutes for you to enjoy as you recover from all your 4th of July festivities. While I can’t make any comparison to the 2005 Liberty, I can say that the 2009 Liberty was a delightful and at times, surprising cigar. The price of the 2009 Liberty is a bit hard to swallow (thats what she said) to make it an everyday or even a occasional smoke. I do envision the 2009 Liberty as making a special occasion even more special and a welcome addition to those of you who have a growing Camacho Liberty collection.

  1. Fuckin great review Jerry. ๐Ÿ˜€

Man, I’m dying to try one of these now. Having an ’07 as we speak.

I’m a bit of a Camacho whore and love most of the lines, but the best one I ever had was an ’06 11/18. It had just the right amount of time on it where it still had its power but was really smooth at the same time.

As for currently lines, I’ve taken to the SLR Maduro lately, and the Triple Maduro is always a great smoke too. And the Camacho Corojo is a never fail good smoke. Hell, it’s hard to pick a favorite. ๐Ÿ˜€

As far as collecting, don’t really have ones just to collect, but I have a box of 11/18s I’m letting sit for a couple years. And I do have a stash of different Libertys, but most of those were gifts. I wasn’t too impressed with the ’05 I had a couple weeks ago, but I smoked it right when it was gifted so maybe it wasn’t stored correctly. I have another waiting for me so we’ll try it in a few months.

Thanks again Jerry, great as always.

  2. Happy 4th, Jerry! You gotta love it when a cigar surprises you like that! Your excitement about the flavour change really came through in the video and it got me all hyped up! I’m going to have to look for a couple of those bad muthas!!

To answer your question about “collecting” cigars, I don’t believe in the whole collector cigars idea. I do however “stock up” on cigars, but all of those cigars I stock, I plan to smoke at some point in time.

As for your question of my favourite Camacho, I’ve only had the pleasure of smoking the Triple Maduro…which I reviewed on the Stogie Review Fan Forums. If anyone wants to know what I thought of it, you’re going to have to go to the SRFF to find out! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the great review! I hope the wife is feeling good with your future addition. Do you know where one can pick up a few of the new 2009’s on the web? Glad to have you following me again on twitter. Hope your 4th was great!

    Warm regards,

    Mitch

  4. Great review, I have to say my favorite so far is still the 2005 I’m really hoping these are as good if not better and from your review I’m thinking they are gonna be better. As far as the rating I completely understand where your coming from when you say price plays a factor but I really believe a great cigar is a great cigar regardless of price.

  5. Jerry,

Another fine review my friend and looks like you smoked a great cigar to celebrate the 4th with. As for my favorite Camacho, I would have to say it’s the Camacho Corojo Maduro! I really have not smoked to many Camacho’s but I plan too in the up coming months. Again nice review and hope you and your family enjoyed the day as well.

  6. I do have a b-day coming up, so maybe I will search for 1 or 2 of these, but the price is a bit high ๐Ÿ™

Collecting – NO – I would keep the coffins! I would love to get a complete set of the coffins from the year they made the flag!! That would be sweet! I just dont get why I should pay all that money for a cigar and then just look at it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Camacho – favorite would be the Triple Maduro, so far. I havent smoked too many, and it is a weird choice since i like mild-medium smokes, but that little bugger is good ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Mike

adding more to my wish list or SRFF ๐Ÿ™‚ You are gonna make my wish list a couple pages long if you keep having cigar orgasms LOL

  7. Great review Jerry. I tried getting a hold of one of these to smoke yesterdat but my B&M’s hadnt got them in yet.

I have purchased 2 CamachoLibertys each year. One to smoke right away and one to save and age.

My favorite Camacho right now is the Connecticut.

  8. Nice review Jerry. Man, it is hard to say what Camacho is my favorite. I have never had a Liberty so I would have to say that it would have to be either the Triple Maduro or the Corojo Limited both in the 11/18 size. That Liberty really sounds tasty, I may have to hunt one or two down.

  9. Nice review… I think this one is special as it may have more F-bombs than any under 20 min video I have seen the Torpedo produce. (This video is not for the weak… Jerry has poured his heart and soul into this one I can feel the emotion…)

My favorite Camacho would be the Liberty 2005… After you send me 2090/40,000 I hope its the 2009 Liberty. My favorite affordable Camacho,ie the one I can actually smoke, is the Camacho Connecticut Figurado.

I don’t really collect as I am willing to smoke anything I have at anytime. My collection is more a function of stocking up before SCHIP hit.

  10. Great rfeview Jerry, calling all my shops trying to locate one of these guys, My Favorite Camacho is the Triple, as it was one of the first cigars I ever smoked…

  11. Great review Jerry. That review was the perfect length, that’s what she said, and it looks like a great smoke. My favorite Camacho cigar is the Camacho Corojo. Long Fucking Ashes bro

  12. Sounds like an awesome cigar, Jerry! I’m a big fan of the Camacho Connecticut, the only Connecticut I really like, in fact. I’d LOVE to try a Liberty!
    Thanks! You ROCK!

  13. Wow, Jerry, what a review and generous offer. My favorite Camacho is one that, alas, is just not produced at the same levels of its origin: the Camacho Diploma, when it was first released, for about its first year, was a stellar cigar that I bought up boxes at a time. Mass production or new leaf inventory seems to have worn some of the rich luster off of the Diploma over the years, but those first boxes were something special.

  14. Jerry, you are a fuckin’ riot my man. I love your video reviews and its good to see someone so passionate about what it is they are doing.

I consider myself a smoker not a collector. And as for my favorite Camacho; that would have to be the SLR Maduro. Had one at a bud’s house the other day, and now I’m hooked.

Keep up the good work. PS> It should be a requirement that all your reviews from now on have at least 1 “that’s what she said”!!!!!

  15. Hello Jerry,

Really great review, I enjoyed your video especially when the cigar flavor changed, you looked as if this was one great cigar except for the price!
I forgot to mention what my favorite Camacho cigar was, to tell the truth I have never smoked one however I am looking for someplace to buy one or two
on-line if you know where to pick one up. I am still waiting for my Black Band project cigars to arrive, any suggestions who to contact about this? I did leave a comment of the Camacho web site maybe that will work. Hope your little one is born the 25th of Sept. that’s my birthday.

    Best Regards,

    Mitch

  16. Jerry,

    Thanks for the review!

I have only had one Camacho and it was a pre-embargo. I plan on picking up a couple Camacho Connecticut’s in the near future.

  17. Man that was entertaining and informative and I loved it! Thanks for the great review and I’m stoked to head out tmrw in search of a couple Liberty ’09’s! Have never had any of ’em gonna try and pick up some of the older years as well. Fave Camacho right now has gotta be the triple maduro, and I’d classify myself as a hoarder more than a collector! When I find a stick I love I tend to buy alot of ’em, sometimes too quickly when the magic wears off LOL. LFA!

  18. I have to say, fucking awesome review! I was really surprised, after you hit that half way point I made up my mind ‘gotta get one of these!’ Everything about that cigar just screams ‘enjoy’ from the ‘your smoking number xx/40,000’ to the personal cedar coffin to the paper wrapping the cigar. Very enjoyable review and what sounds like a must have cigar.

My first, and only, Camacho cigar was a Camacho Corojo. I dont know what year or anything specific, but I do know that it was, at the time, one of the best buzzes I ever got from a cigar, and a very enjoyable taste.

  19. Love your reviews jerry. I would have to say my favorite comacho would have to be the triple maduro. Although I find it somewhat inconsistent it has on a couple of occassions defined the perfect smoking experience for me. As for aging and collecting, I just smoke them too damn fast to even accidentially age one. Price is an issue for me but I make the occasional exception and the liberty is one I hope to find. I just loved how that cigar lit you up, It is the same with me when you get a good one it just makes your day.

  20. Jerry,
Great review, loved the F-bombs….musta been a good smoke!

My favorite Camacho is the Triple Maduro.

  21. Jerry,
Great review, sounds like this cigar really made an impression. I’ve never had one of the liberty cigars but my favorite Camacho has got to be the Triple Maduro. Peace brother.

  22. Great video Jerry, one of the best ever IMO.

I have never had a Camacho cigar. I dont know why, I just seem to pass them up.

  23. Great review Jerry, best 15 minutes I have spent all day (thats what she said) lol.

I would say my favorite Camacho I have had would be the Triple Maduro!

  24. Wow I don’t think I have ever seen someone orgasm over a cigar before LOL… I definitely need to try and track one of these things down. Right now I think my favorite Camacho like many here is the Triple Maduro although I have starting getting back into an old favorite lately the Corojo. Great stuff as always Jerry

  25. lol…I always know when you’re dishing out a contest based on comment quantity.

Anyway, hopefully I’ll be back to commenting regularly on here (I’ve been getting too sucked into the forum and other sites that I’ve been neglecting the main attraction!). I’ve only had one Camacho (the Connie) and if I’d ever get my cigars from the Black Band Project, I’d have two more to sample!

As always, nice review man and keep up the good work!.

  26. Sweet review, have yet to smoke a cigar but your review got me super excited, I have my bachelor party coming up and that’s when I’ll smoke my first. So I don’t have a favorite Camacho but I’d love to try one.

  27. Hey another great review I have never tried a camacho yet have been meaning to but as far as collecting cigars I never have bought a cigar with intentions of collecting except the cao soprano sampler the box is so bad ass I didn’t want to mess with it it’s in the shape of a car trunk so I did buy that to collect but nothing else

  28. All hail The Great Torpedo!! As always Jerry, your reviews are off the fuckin hook!! Id love to get my greasy paws on a Liberty 09 and give it a spin. Camacho has become a solid, solid brand that i often turn to for a great smoke. My favorite Camacho currently is the Select. Earthy, woodsy, peppery…horray!!

  29. The Triple Maduro is the Shizz-Nizz, the Beez Kneez, the most splendid Camacho Cigar I’ve had indeed.

  30. Personally my favorite camacho blend is currently the triple maduro.

I do intentionally age cigars but I have no cigars that I do not intend to smoke. I am not a fan of the idea of collecting a consumable. That’s an insult to it’s intended purpose and the creators as far as I am concerned. It’s like saying that it has more value sitting in a dark box and being looked at than actually appreciated in the way it should be. I brew beer, cider and mead. Without drinking them they are just liquid in a bottle. Without smoking a cigar it’s just rolled up leaves.

If I grill a good steak for a friend I will be insulted (and horribly confused) if he put it in a ziploc and took it home to keep forever.

  31. Only Camacho I’ve had so far has been the Connecticut. So that’s gotta be it by default. Unless I win this contest, the next Camacho I smoke will the the triple maduro. Last time I was in a shop those things called to me. Have to pick one up next time…

  32. Wow. Great review. Just getting back from a trip catching up on your stuff and you had me all excited just watching this thing. Great job!

I am the same way when it comes to aging. If I end up with something in the humidor with years of age on it, it is purely by accident. Either forgot about it or just never grabbed it for one reason or another.

My favorite Camacho right now has to be the Corojo. I really like the flavors in that thing and you can’t beat the price.

Thanks again Jerry for all the great work. Keep ’em coming.

  33. Another great review Jerry. All you guys are outstanding and I respect what you guys bring to the table. I have only been a serious cigar smoker for about 3 years, so I haven’t really gotten into collecting cigars yet. I do have some CAO Sopranos that I am letting age while I try many other different flavors. I am gonna get me a couple Libertys and I love the Camacho Select and that would have been my favorite until yesterday when I had my 1st Camacho Corojo Limited 08/22. Great FN cigar!

  34. Nice review jerry, damn look how far down in the comments i am. it sucks going on vacation without internet, you get behind on reviews and news.

Fav Camacho is Corojo, but haven’t had many Camachos, still can’t get a Connecticut. Corona Cigar Company didn’t have them.

  35. I just smoked one of these straight off the UPS truck.

I expect these to be good given the hype.

I too was very pleasantly surprised by this cigar.
I experienced a nice smooth tobacco flavor that changed a couple of times during the smoke. I picked up the typical Camacho woodsiness, but it was complemented by some cherry notes at times and the roasted coffee notes that you mentioned in your review.

Kudos to Christian! You have a winner here.

  36. I just received my box of ’09’s. I opened #6041 and found the wrapper to the notably cracked as did I find #6042. I did find #6043 to be intact. The coffins are not up to snuff as compared to the quality of the 08’s, varying dramatically in construction. I have not tried one as yet; however, the initial presentation is less than remarkable.

  37. Jerry,

I really enjoyed watching you smoke the Liberty and watching your expressions as you smoked it. You obviously enjoyed the experience.
I have just started enjoying Camacho cigars. I have fallen in love with the Camacho Corojo Monarca. It’s bold character has me smoking down to a nub and wishing it wouldn’t end.
Unlike you, I still find it difficult to express the flavors I taste as I experience each draw of a stogie. However, I am getting better.
The Diploma has also become a favorite of mine. In fact, I just enjoyed one today.

    Please keep the reviews coming.

    Bob
