La Palina Goldie Laguito Especial was released earlier this year as the third vitola in the Goldie line following the No. 2 and the No. 5. The Goldie line is a tribute to women in the cigar industry and named after Goldie Paley, Sam Paley’s wife, the founder of La Palina Cigars in 1896. Rolled in the El Titan del Bronze by Maria Sierra, a level 9 roller who was personally trained by Eduardo Irizarri, Fidel Castro’s personal cigar roller, and Avelino Lara for Cohiba. The lancero uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper and the size is 7 x 40 with an MSRP of $16.50.
The cigar opens with flavors of cedar, nuts, honey and black pepper. The construction is amazing as the draw was spot on. As the cigar burned down, the cigar developed a creaminess to it to compliment the other notes as the black pepper faded. The body was around mild to medium with the strength increasing as the cigar burned. Near the end, I got mostly cedar and creme, but the black pepper came back to become a dominate note. This is a high quality cigar well deserving of the high price tag. These are limited to only 2500 boxes of 10 so if you can find these cigars, jump on them. You won’t regret it.
Ben, I must ask what is the lighter you are using? It is really gorgeous, and I’m in the market for a soft flame lighter. Great review by the way, I’m going to have to pick up a box of either these (love the lancero vitola) or the No. 5. Cheers!
Hey Marc,
Thanks! That is a Davidoff soft flame by ST DuPont. Great lighter. The fuel last a long time as well. Definitely pick up a box, especially of the No. 5 if you can find them.
