The A. Fuente Don Carlos lancero is quite a rare cigar. Only available originally from Casa Fuente or Carlito himself, these cigars have recently been available in gift sets from Prometheus, limited edition humidors from Fuente Cigars or in boxes of 13 that were available to a very select few retailers. I was lucky enough to be gifted one of these by Marvin Holthouser of Harbor Cigars in Destin, FL while visiting there last week. Besides being a great shop, Marvin and Melissa are truly great friends of the leaf with great customer service. Thanks again for the gift! Anyway, back to the cigar. Here are the details of the cigar:
- Wrapper: Cameroon
- Binder: Dominican Republic
- Filler: Dominican Repubilc
- MSRP: $13.50
The cigar opens up with a very nice sweet bread flavor with some notes of roasted almonds and cedar. The retrohale has a spice in it that reminds me of white pepper. As the cigar burns down, the sweetness really ramps up and I get a nice caramel note. At about the half way point, the sweet bread notes are gone and completely replaced by the sweet caramel note. On the final third, it develops a mild coffee flavor that is really pleasing, ending with the roasted almonds, white pepper, sweet caramel and cedar. Overall and excellent cigar. Well worth the $13.50 price tag. Hopefully these will become more available because I would definitely like to get more of these.
Smoking one at Casa Fuente right now. Great cigar. FYI,
limit two per visit.
