IPCPR 2016: Smoking Jacket

In this video Ben Lee talks to Hendrik Kelner, Jr, the man behind Smoking Jacket cigars. This year Kelner is introducing the brand’s second limited edition, the Gran Toro. And limited edition is right, there are 300 boxes of 10 cigars produced for the world, 250 of them destined for the U.S. market. Each one is signed and dated.

The Gran Toro is 6 x 54, and features a Corojo wrapper, Dominican, Nicaraguan and Peruvian fillers, and a Dominican double binder. If you can find them, expect to pay around $12 per stick, plus your applicable local taxes.

Also new is the Smoking Jacket Henkie, which is slated to hit shops in the December-January time frame. It’s a project that Kelner had in mind for a few years down the road, but the recent FDA developments made accelerate the process. The Henkie has a Corojo wrapper, a Dominican binder grown by Kelner’s sister, and Nicaraguan fillers. The price point for that hasn’t been determined, but the plan is for it to be under ten dollars.
