Our next stop was Oliva’s booth to get the scoop on the new Gilberto Oliva Reserva, the first new cigar line from Oliva since the Serie V Melanio back in 2012. (It’s hard to believe the Melanio has been out that long.) Two Gilberto Oliva Reserva blends are being released, one with an Indonesian wrapper and an Ecuadorian binder, the other, the Reserva Blanc, has an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and an Ecuadorian binder. Both blends have Nicaraguan fillers. There will be five vitolas of each, with wallet-friendly prices ranging from $5.80 to $6.90.
It was a pleasure to talk to industry veteran, Jack “Silver Fox” Sandlin for this review. He retires at the end of September this year after 36 years in the business, 9 of those with Oliva. We hope he has a happy retirement, he’s undoubtedly earned it.
