Smokies Cigar Lounge Lancaster Ave: A Hidden Gem in Reading, PA | Eddie on the Streets

When Eddie travels for work, he’s always on the lookout for solid cigar shops worth sharing with the Smoke and Steel community. On January 9th, Eddie, Eric, and Walt decided to do a local edition of Eddie on the Streets and stopped at Smokies Cigar Lounge on Lancaster Avenue in Reading, PA. What they found was a shop that gets it right in all the ways that matter.

Walking Into Smokies Cigar Lounge

The Lancaster Avenue location hits you with a good first impression the second you walk in. Premium cigars line the walls. The lounge area actually looks comfortable, not like an afterthought. You get the sense that people spend real time here.

Maria, the manager, greeted us right away and made us feel at home. She made us coffee, a double-shot cappuccino for Eddie, black coffee for the Walt. These little touches matter. They’re what separate a place you visit once from a place you come back to.

The Walk-In Humidor

Any cigar shop lives or dies by its humidor. Smokies gets this right. The walk-in humidor at the Lancaster Ave location keeps a solid selection of premium brands.

You’ll find the usual suspects. Padron, which Eric grabbed (the 1964 Anniversary). CLE, including the Corojo that Eddie smoked during the visit. La Flor Domoinicana, which Walt picked up (Suave Maduro). Camacho, Liga Privada, Crowned Heads, plus a bunch of boutique labels mixed in with the classics.

“It smells so good in here,” Eric says in the video. He’s not wrong. A properly maintained humidor has that distinctive smell. Smokies clearly takes care of their stock.

The Mezzanine Level Changes Everything

Here’s where Smokies really stands out. The mezzanine level is one of Eric’s favorite parts of the whole shop. It’s a lofted seating area with TVs and comfortable chairs. You can watch a game up there or just hang out and talk.

The design works. It feels separate from the main floor but you’re not isolated. Good ashtrays, decent sightlines to the screens, comfortable seating. Everything you need for an afternoon smoke or an evening with friends.

We showed up on a Friday around noon. The place was quiet. Perfect if you want a peaceful smoke. By the time we left at 2 PM, regulars were starting to filter in. You could see this is a real gathering spot for the Reading cigar community.

Meeting Ahmed, The Owner

During the visit, we got to talk with Ahmed, who owns Smokies Cigar Lounge. The Lancaster Avenue location is hitting its 5-year anniversary on January 23rd. Five years is a real accomplishment for a Brick & Mortar Cigar Shop.

Ahmed’s built something more than just a store. The careful selection, the welcoming staff, the lounge design. It all shows someone who cares about creating a destination, not just moving product. That kind of attention to detail is rare.

Selection and Pricing

Let’s talk about what matters. Does Smokies have what you want, and can you afford it? The answer is yes on both counts.

The cigar selection covers everyday smokes and special occasion sticks. Pricing is fair. Not the cheapest you’ll find, but not gouging either. Right in that sweet spot where you feel good about what you’re buying.

Beyond cigars, they stock the full range of accessories. Cutters, lighters, humidors. They’ve got a pipe section too. If you need something for your cigar hobby, they probably have it.

What Makes Smokies Worth The Visit

Eddie’s been to a lot of cigar shops for “Eddie on the Streets.” After a while, you start to see what separates the memorable ones from the forgettable ones. Smokies Cigar Lounge on Lancaster Avenue gets the big stuff right.

The hospitality is real. Maria’s cappuccinos, Ahmed taking time to talk, the way the staff treats you like you’re already a regular. That stuff can’t be faked.

The atmosphere works. Main floor for shopping and where the action is. Mezzanine for when you want to settle into a more private space. It gives you options depending on your mood.

The selection is solid without being overwhelming. They’ve clearly thought about what their customers actually want instead of just cramming every brand they can onto the shelves.

The humidor maintenance is on point. When a shop takes care of their cigars, it tells you they respect the product and the customer.

And there’s a real community here. This isn’t just a retail transaction kind of place. People come here to hang out, and that’s always a good sign.
