Location: Above Average
The Outlaw is located about 5 minutes from KCI airport, which is a great location for anyone visiting Kansas City. It is located about 20 minutes from Downtown Kansas City, and 45 minutes from where my parent’s house is in Overland Park, KS. Kansas City is a spread out city, so it’s not a bad that its about 20 minutes from the main part of KC. It has a parking lot that can park about 25 vehicles right outside the store, but there is a large parking lot since it is in a shopping center with a grocery store.

Staff: Above Average
The staff at The Outlaw is very friendly and inviting. Since I am just 19, they pay extra attention to me, but I expect it. They go into the walk-in with me and will answer any questions I have while in there. Their Lounge is right next to the storefront, so the staff go into the lounge and talk to everyone when they aren’t helping people in the storefront. Overall, they make it a pleasurable place to visit.

Stock: Exceptional
The Outlaw has a 600 square foot walk in humidor. They have many many different brands and have a lot of any certain kind of cigar. They have a few brands listed on their website, but that only accounts for a fraction of the brands they carry. I like to go in and pick up a stick of a brand I have never heard of. They hold a cigar event about every month, and have a lot of cigars left over from the events. Their prices are about average to the other stores in Kansas City. For instance, a RP decade torpedo costs around $11. On the condition of the cigars, they are great. All of the cigars are stored in their respective boxes, and their humidor is maintained the best they can. They are one of top stores in Kansas City, and want to keep it that way, so they pay attention to their products. They also sell a wide array of pipe tobacco products, selling tobacco, pipes, stands, tobacco containers, pipe tools, etc. They sell a few different packs of cigarettes. They sell humidors, ashtrays, lighters, cutters, knifes, cigar apparel, and some other cool items. Their prices on these items are average to prices I’ve seen elsewhere.

Lounge: Exceptional
The Outlaw lounge is what keeps my business. My parents’ house is about 45-50 minutes away from The Outlaw, but every weekend i’m in town, I go to the Outlaw because I love smoking in their Lounge. It’s an 800 sq. ft. lounge with about 11 or 12 nice leather chairs, and two leather loveseats. there are ashtrays all over the place with one for every one or two chairs. They have 3 plasma screen tvs that are always showing something interesting. There is a coffee maker, sink, drink vending machine with various sodas, tea, and Monster energy drink. There is a bathroom also. I have seen poker tables, but have never seen them set up. There is always others there enjoying cigars and almost all will talk to you about something. It’s the kind of place where the whole room is involved in a conversation and its very inviting.

Overall Opinion: Exceptional
Overall, I think the Outlaw is a great place to go, especially if you are wanting to smoke a cigar at the shop. Their selection of cigars is one of the best, if not the best in Kansas City and surrounding areas. Their prices are on-par with the other shops in Kansas City and not too much higher than online resources. One thing that I want to mention that I didn’t before is their events. They love to put on parties for these events. They usually have free beer, free food, poker tournaments, long ash contests, raffles, cigar specials, and a few other cool things. During some of the major parties, they will have military planes fly over the shop and military helicopters come and visit. Overall, this place is a great place that takes pride in being a “big cigar shop with a little shop atmosphere.”

Another note: They are opening a shop in Overland Park, to be opened in November, which will have two smoking lounges, and a humidor two and a half times bigger than the one in KC. I’m excited about this because it is only 5 minutes away from my parents house. I will post a review when it opens.

  1. I agree, The Outlaw is in every way an exceptional shop. But it’s the events and parties that put it over the top. The Ashton party earlier this month, for example, easily drew over 1,000 people. The National Guard landed an Apache helicopter during the party, there was a custom car and hot rod show as well as dozens of bikes and a poker tournament in the evening. Great deals on cigars, a huge roast pig, Granite City beer and sales on Xikar merchandise. And this is the SOP for an Outlaw party!

  2. Ive bought
a few of “2nds, overruns, and cheap sticks during my two year experience with cigars. Yes some of the these that are most likely to happen is consistency issues. But now im thinking that these overruns/2nds are not just inconsistant, but its the fillers they use from leftovers from the company. Ive disected two out of the three 2nds I’ve purchased and it was nothing but scraps and what you could barely call short fillers.. DO NOT buy those Easy Five cigars! Even on the packaging they say longfiller.. but was just crumbs like what could quite possibly be floor sweepings.. i will not give up finding a premium “longfiller” cigar and if anyone knows of some please let me know. Hope this helped some of you.
