Third Annual Smoke a JJ for JJ Day

July 22nd is the 3rd Annual Smoke a JJ for JJ Day. It is in celebration of my Little Robusto, my son JJ, who as many of you know, passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) while at daycare when he was 3.5 months old. This July 22nd would’ve been his 3rd birthday. The DPG Series JJ was the first cigar I smoked after his birth and holds a truly special place in my heart.

The event is simple, whenever/wherever on July 22nd, spark up a DPG Series JJ and enjoy the time. Its that simple.

Raise Money for a Good Cause:

A few days ago on Twitter, Barry, from A Cigar Smoker’s Journal announced that he would be making a charitable donation to the American SIDS Institute for everyone that sends in a picture of them smoking a Don Pepin Garcia Serie JJ for JJ. Each photo will earn the institute $20.00, with a $500.00 cap. Photos must be emailed to Barry in order to be counted. For more information on this display of generosity, please head over to A Cigar Smoker’s Journal.

  1. I’ll be sure to light one up at the B&M I work at today, as of just recently about to celebrate my first son’s first birthday here shortly I can only speculate how much pain you and your family had to go through. I only hope you and your family can live on to see many brighter days.

  2. Hey Jerry! I’m looking forward to enjoying one tonight. My little bambino just turned 3 on the 17th, my heart breaks for you, I can’t imagine what you guys went through. We are promised we will never be given more than we can bear. I hope you’re doing well today, and I look forward to watching more of your reviews. You are a gentleman and a stogie scholar sir 😉

  3. I am a normal at the site as far as reading a watching everyones reviews. I just wanna say that my prayers are with you and i am going to enjoy my series JJ4JJ today. Best wishes and hopefully i can do a guest review at sometime.

  4. God bless you and your family. Just know that one day you will all be reunited with little JJ in heaven. Be strong and have faith every day!

  5. Had one earlier at the local shop for your Little Robusto. Didn’t have a camera, but I wish you, your wife, and cute little daughter the best! To JJ!

  6. Angela and I had a great time smoking this today (she drove all over town to find two more after I had smoked both of the ones I had in the morning).

My favorite part is the slideshow of all of the BOTLs pulling together from all across the country and spending a few minutes thinking about JJ.

In one way or another we are all blessed.

  7. Last night I stopped at my local B&M tonight to share a JJ for JJ “Little Robusto” with whomever might also know of this virtual event in his honor. Not only did the store manager know, but there were several cigar smokers there all lifting their Don Pepin Garcia Serie JJ’s when I lit up mine, all in honor of your son.

God’s blessings to you and your family to continue helping you through your loss.

  8. Found out in the morning that I was all out of JJ’s, so I drove the 70 miles to the nearest decent B&M to pick up a few. It was worth the drive. Blessings to you Jerry and your family. I hope your day was made better by all the love coming from the brothers…(and sisters!)

  9. Are you aware that you are about to donate to tobacco haters who equal tobacco with cocaine and heroin and who expand the lie of “second hand smoke”? How in earnest can any brother of the leaf do this?

“Do not smoke, use cocaine, or use heroin. Tobacco, cocaine, or heroin use during pregnancy increases the infant’s risk for SIDS. … Avoid exposing the infant to tobacco smoke. Don’t have your infant in the same house or car with someone who is smoking.” http://www.sids.org/nprevent.htm

LIES! Tobacco smoke is harmless. More, it is beneficial: In fact, even a 1998 WHO study shows that children of smoking parents are HEALTHIER than children of nonsmoking parents. http://www.forces.org

Most of those “risk factors” mentioned on sids.org are biased opinions of the medicynical inquisition. Obviously, the American SIDS Institute is a health-extremist and anti-smoking organisation. Thus, they will NEVER allow the truth about SIDS to come out. Because their theories are based on LIES, they are NOT helpful to parents who lost their child due to SIDS.

THE main cause for SIDS is the separation of the baby from the mother. A baby needs to be in constant contact with the mother. If it is separated from the mother (e.g. “daycare”), there will be a higher risk. So: Don’t put your baby into a separate bed. Don’t put it into a buggy; use baby slings instead. http://www.didymos.com http://www.mobywrap.com

    1. This is put in place to help support Jerry, his family, and the millions of other people who have dealt with a horrible loss due to SIDS. It doesn’t matter what foundations think about us, who chose to partake in smoking cigars.

Just have a JJ for JJ and be happy to help. Save the anger and arguments for another time.

  10. Hey Walt, smoked a JJ for JJ. Also, Happy belated Birthday man! I was reading your blog on Walt in PA and saw you hadn’t anything to look forward to after your 21st. You have to look forward to smoking something special, and getting lucky with the wife 😉
