Well here we are at Monday night and I have been so busy I have not had time to get a review ready for this Tuesday spot, so I figured I might as well do a week in smoke. Now, I have a BAD memory so that is the “Kinda” part in the title as I know I will not remember everything. I also am notoriously bad at snapping pictures of cigars I am smoking so I will be linking back to the reviews if we have them here on StogieReview.com.
As you can already tell, I am not in anyway as organized as the rest of the SR crew.
So without further blabbering, here are some of the smokes I have had this past week.
Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne Churchill
This cigar has been one of my go to smokes for a long time. I like the medium body of the cigar and can enjoy them any time of the day. I have noted that this churchill size, the only size the local shop had a box of, tends to get a bit nasty at around the 2 inch mark. I have smoked a bunch of these this week.
Rodrigo
This is a boutique cigar that i have found to be a very nice flavorful smoke. I would say it is a medium to full cigar, so I do not smoke these in the morning but they are very nice after a decent meal.
Devil’s Weed Toro
If you follow me on Twitter you know my experience with cigarbid.com and these sticks. I usually bid on a bunch of stuff because I lose a lot. This time I seemed to have won a lot. I ended up with 60 of these cigars and I honestly think they changed the blend or they need an awful lot of aging. I have only smoked 2 of these so far but they are not anywhere near what i remember the old Devil’s Weed to be. I would associate these sticks with a cheap smoke that tastes like you are eating your grass. If anyone reads this and has some of the old Devil’s Weed left, give me a shout if you want to sell/trade any of them as I would really like to compare them again. I will probably be doing a review on these at some point, it’s not like I don’t have enough, but as of right now I would steer very far away from ever buying this crap again.
Devil’s Weed Maduro Churchill
Yes, cigarbid.com once again. Yes, I got in trouble from the wife. I do think the one of these I smoked was a little better than the regular line but I will have to smoke a couple more to make a good determination. Again, you will probably see a review of this one down the line also. I honestly can not say which way I am leaning on this cigar as I have not smoked enough of them yet.
La Vieja Habana Connecticut Gordito
Guess where I got this box. Go ahead, can you guess it? Yea, cigarbid.com. Now these I actually like. I am very impressed with this low cost smoke as it seem to be a really good morning smoke with some coffee. I would not try and smoke one of these after a big heavy meal but for a mild smoke to enjoy, this one seems to keep getting higher on my list of sticks to grab.
CAO Sopranos Soldier
I absolutely love the CAO Sopranos Tony Soprano. For the other sizes, ehh, they are okay but nothing special. I do think the Tony Soprano is priced way too high but I imagine that is due to the Sopranos name and HBO needing a slice of the pie. I really hope CAO’s new owners (General Cigar) either continue the line or rename the Tony Soprano as the Stogie Review Mike cigar and sell it for a decent price. I don’t think that is too much to ask 🙂 I am also open to taking all excess inventory of the Tony Soprano off your hands to open up space in your warehouse. I am just that nice of a guy.
Xikar HC Connecticut Robusto
Here is a cigar that i don’t seem to smoke enough of. I find them locally every now and again but it isn’t something that seems to be available in all sizes all the time. I like the robusto but the 6×60 size I was sent is one I can not wait to get my hands on again since I prefer bigger ring gauges.
Tatuaje El Triunfador – new blend
I really do not think I can convey in words how much I absolutely love this stick. I could smoke this thing every day and never get tired of it. I have had a few different sizes, although I still have not gotten the lancero, and so far I have liked every one of them. I think the one closest to a robusto is my least favorite but I still smoked through the box in no time flat. If I lived next to Pete he would have a restraining order taken out on me because I would ring his doorbell begging for these sticks at least 3 times a day. Pricey, yes, but damn they are good.
El Legend Ario Bertha
I am still smoking these but not as much here of late as the seem to get a lot stronger toward the nub than they used to. I still think it is a good smoke but I might have to let some sit for a year to see if they meld a bit better in that final third.
Well that is about all I can think of that I smoked. I hope you find some of the same cigars enjoyable, or not, and if you have not tried them, get out there and start smokin!
Hopefully I will start remembering to take pictures of my cigars so it wont be so dull next time.
Hey, are you the guy who kept driving up the bids on the Ron Mexicos and Don Smiths? I guess you’re lucky your wife didn’t make you promise to smoke all those Devil’s Weeds within the next month as punishment. 😉 Thanks for the warning on them!
wasn’t me 😉
Devil’s Weed clearly isn’t what it used to be. At one point they came in individually numbered boxes; now they come in bundles and taste a bit more rough, as if they are being mass produced and not allowed to age enough. Definitely a shame — I used to like them a lot more than I do now.
I like the Week in Smoke concept! Pictures or even a brief video summary would be cool, too.
I am going to try and age some for a nice long time and see if they go back to the original Devil’s Weed but with that lawn mower scent and taste, I just don’t know if time will help.
I did the same thing with the El Triunfador that you did with Devils Weed.I bought way too many. i still have an unopened box or two.At around $70 dollars a box.I still dont like them.I realy dont care for a woody cedar profile.
oh my lord I love those things. I never had the original El Triunfador yet but the new one makes me salivate!
If you ever want to sell them shoot me an email mike at thissitename dot com and if I get the wife’s permission we can make something happen lol
Pete Johson The Tatuaje brand is over price cigar. I do love some of his cigars line( Red& Black Label, Verocu # 9…). He has forgotten the working men. When a cigar good goes over six dollars a stick during the jobless years. Keep doing the review on a workingmen brands…..
What about the pictures?!?!
Nice job on Mike’s kinda “weak” in smoke. LOL Keep up the good work.
mango
Good job mike but I agree were the hell are the pics lol. Just messin.
I love the Sopranos, as well, but as you said … can’t afford too many of them!
I really enjoyed this format. I was wondering about the Devils Weed line as they seem to go at a pretty economical price per five pack but now I know why. Although it seems as if a lot of sticks I have puchased lately need some aging time. Keep up the great variety of reviews.
