Screwpop Cigar Punch — accessory review (plus giveaway)

Screwpop Cigar Punch

We’ve all been there. You’re just about to enjoy a fine cigar and a cold beer when you realize you’ve forgotten to bring a cigar cutter and bottle opener… what a buzzkill! In the past, you’d need to carry around a separate cigar cutting tool and bottle opener, adding a significant amount of bulk to your already overflowing pockets. Now there’s a new solution: a combination cigar punch and bottle opener that clips right onto your keychain called the Screwpop Cigar Punch. The folks at Screwpop recently sent one to me to find out what I thought about it.

Screwpop Cigar Punch by the numbers:
Description: combination cigar punch + bottle opener (with keychain attachment)
Materials: aluminum body & stainless steel (insert/gating/rivets)
Size: 1/2″ x 1″ x 3 1/8″
Weight: 0.75oz
Source: review sample
MSRP: $9.95
Website: www.screwpoptool.com
Facebook: Screwpop Tool, LLC.

(Video length: 4:51)

The Screwpop Cigar Punch is really a great idea. It’s so convenient to clip it onto your keychain and just forget about it, knowing that you’ll never again be in a situation where you’re unable to cut a cigar or open a beer. Is it my preferred method of cutting my cigars? No, but it’s an excellent backup for those emergency scenarios in which you might otherwise be unprepared. And for less than $10, that’s an insurance policy anyone can afford.

  1. My favorite cutter is my Pailo. But I guess it can’t open tasty craft brews like the Screwpop. Thanks for the accessory review Charlie.

  2. Xikar carried daily 13 years. Simple cutter easy use I did use a punch a few times in the past. It was a smaller version that was too small bigger is sometimes better than too small

  3. My favorite is my Xikar Xi1 cutter. I haven’t found a punch cutter that I really like… Yet.

  4. Favorite cutter? Xikar is what I use most often, but when I find a good self-sharpener I’ll buy it.

    1. Congrats, Robert! Your entry was randomly selected as the lucky winner of our giveaway!

Please check your email for instructions on how to claim your prize.

  5. As usual, great review Charlie. I used to like the punch cut but use my Colibri Grip guillotine now. Good to have a back-up cutter AND bottle opener handy on a key chain.

  6. My Xikar cutter which magnetically attaches to the matching lighter. Everything one needs to enjoy a cigar. One of the best gifts my wife has given me.

  7. My favorite cutter used to be the cuban crafters perfect cutter, but for the past month it has been the the xikar multi tool scissors. i hope they stay sharp, they work great and they are always on my keychain.

  8. It was a Xicar bullet punch but since I won a Pailo that has become my new favorite. Who knows if I win a Screwpop it might become my favorite.

  9. I have 3 cutters. Xikar X1, Palio and an old punch. Even though the Xikar and Palio do a great job with torpedoes, I really like the punch on a larger ringer gauge robusto or churchill. This Screwpop punch looks great, love to get my hands on one.

  10. My favorite is a Cuban Crafter Perfect Cutter.. has the hole to accommodate torpedos.. Had a punch I liked for rubustos, but lost it and haven’t replaced it as yet. I do use a V cutter sometimes as well..

  11. Hands down best cutter I have ever had is my Palio Carbon fiber!!! Love that thing I take it all over the place!

  12. The best cutter I have is a freebie firebird cutter from CI that I got at cigarfest a few years back. I stripped off all the crappy paint…. actually… I just realized I don’t know where that one is. Crap. Back to the wallet guillotine.

  13. My go-to cutter is my Xikar V-Cutter. Excellent! But, in an emergency, the punch cutter that’s on the bottom of some lighters will work in an emergency.

  14. My favorite cutter is the V cut, the next one is a punch cutter followered by the Palio cutter.
My V cut is used 90% of the time.

  15. Love my Palio and Xikar V-cutter for torpedo, salomon, and figurado vitolas, but would welcome the opportunity to try a Screwpop cigar punch for toros, coronas, and large gauge cigars. The combination punch, opener, and the keychain style sounds awesome. Great tool for those unprepared cigar moments. Count me in…!

  16. Great idea for a portable cutter. If only it had a built-in plug ejector.

Sure that wasn’t a malt and hops soda?

My Colibri Diesel is my go-to only because I lack something better, but I do have a V-cutter and a couple of cheap punches and guillotines as well.

  17. I’ve never once trued a punch, instead almost exclusively using my trusty, original Palio cutter… I love that thing!

  18. I love my Palio that I received from my buds @dogwatchcigarradio. I equally need to state my Xikar, that I’ve had for ten years, is still cutting like a champ as well. It would be fun to give the Screwpop a chance!

  19. Xikar Xi3 Carbon Fiber is my favorite cutter. Nice feel and touch, keep in mind that I’ve tried a lot of cutters! 🙂

  20. My favorite cutter is a tatuaje I got with a box promo two years ago and still cutting perfect. Its a idiot proof guillotine style , I think, with the solid back, so its perfect for me.

  21. My favorite has allways been a Havana Xikar Cigar Cutter every now a then i use a punch but I need a new punch maybe I could win it my birthday is cuming up!
