IPCPR 2017: Cohiba

We always look forward to talking to Sean Williams at IPCPR, this we found him representing Cohiba at the front of the General Cigar booth. Cohiba is a popular brand, and Sean’s a popular guy, and he was busy every time I passed. Clearly General made a good call making him the Cohiba Brand Ambassador. Also, I’m a little biased, Sean’s a local Atlanta guy and we’ve known him forever, well, at least a decade. And that kinda seems like forever now.

Sean gets us started with the new Cohiba Blue, which he describes as the “base model” or “Porsche Boxter” Cohiba. It features Honduran Olancho San Agustin as both the wrapper and binder, and Honduran Jamastran, Nicaraguan Ometepe, Dominican Piloto Cubano filler. It retails for $8 to $10, plus applicable taxes and is already available in many cigar shops.

From there Sean takes to the other end of the Cohiba spectrum, showing us his favorite Cohiba, the Macassar. It takes its name from a rare and expensive ebony wood from Indonesia. The cigar features a Connecticut Havano wrapper, Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. The Cohiba Macassar retails for around $25 plus applicable taxes.

He also shows us a limited edition set of Cohiba accessories. Each set will contain a Cohiba-branded cutter and a three jet torch, both cast in paladium. Only 300 of these sets will be produced. If you can find it, expect it to cost in the neighborhood of $725.
