Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 Gold (Short Ashes)

Jerry wasn’t feeling 100% this week so he asked if Brian or Myself could cover for him today while he recuperates. Rather than a standard Short Ashes review, I played the role of Ghost of Stogie Future as Jerry and I both take a look at the Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 Gold.

The review runs a little long, at 21 minutes, but what do you expect out of a joint review? Check out the video below, then take a trip in the way back machine and take a peak at the original review done in 2006.

  1. LOL – really liked it 🙂

I would like an elaboration on the pectin comment though. Does pectin fix ripper cigars?

  2. Mike,
Pectin is a vegetable or fruit based product that is used to make jam (found in canning isle of your grocery store). It is used in the cigar business as a natural glue that is tasteless (as far as Vegetable based goes, fruit based stuff is tart).

If you add a little bit of the Pectin powder to some warm water it begins to gel up and will hold a lifting wrapper like glue. The same stuff is used to apply the cap of your cigar as well as the band.

I keep some on hand for the occasional wrapper problem. A box of pectin is pretty inexpensive and goes a LONG way.

Check out this video for info on how I use my pectin.

  3. Very creative, Walt! It makes short ashes review much more informative and fun!
For Torano stuff, I’m a real fan of 1916 Cameroon – it replaced Oliva G Cameroon as my mid-day, coffee and relaxation cigar. It may not be really memorable, but is very flavorful and smooth. You don’t always need an attention grabbing prima-donna to enjoy yourself. 🙂

  4. Loved the review. Great idea. Nice editing. Also, nice to see you figured out how to get that camera to focus. ; )

  5. Nice review. I used to really like the Torano Exodus cigar a few years ago but I don’t see them around that much so I haven’t had one in quite a while. I may have to try and hunt some down.

  6. Walt,

You have gone beyond the pale on this review. Creative and just plain awesome!!!!!!!!!!! I completely enjoyed you merging the reviews and definitely appreciate the time you put in to re-review a cigar and done in a completely entertaining manner. My compliments!!!!!!!
