Your Questions, My Answers (YQMA) Episode 42

Last week, Brian and I got together to record our first Your Questions, My Answers (YQMA) in what seemed liked ages. With a little free time later that evening, I sat down with Mike and recorded Episode 42.

Episode 42 ran nearly twice as long as we had allotted and comes in at just under forty minutes. Aside from random cigar related banter, Mike an I discussed our opinions on how often you should check your humidor. We also spent some time talking about the worse advise we have ever been given in regards to cigars. In between questions and banter, we discussed out cigar of the evening, the CAO La Traviata.

  1. Worst advice I’ve gotten regarding cigars.

    1. Colibri makes the best lighters.
I’ll never spend my money on another Coliibri lighter. The best one I’ve ever had lasted six months, most don’t make it six weeks, and I know how to maintain a lighter. Blazer Pocket Torch, Vector Thundra, Bugatti B1, Ronson or Bic for me.

    2. Cheap single blade guillotine works as good as anything out there.
Maybe for the first five cigars. I’ll use my Palio or Xikar and that’s it.

    3. You don’t need a humidor, just throw them in the freezer and they’ll last forever.
No matter how many times I tell my landlord how and why that’s a bad idea he still tosses all of his cigars into his freezer and encourages everyone else to do the same.

    4. Very expensive cigars taste the best.
Just not true. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed cigars in all price ranges.

    5. You should only smoke a cigar down to the band.
Some cigars just blossom with flavor in the final third and I don’t want to miss that. The cigar will let you know when it’s done.

  2. Great job as always guys. I wanted to like the Traviata, but multiple robustos I bought from different boxes were either completely plugged or had tight draws. Anyone else have the same issues with these sticks?

  3. Sorry for getting excited, it was late. Though I swear the last CA magazine I read I could of sworn it was a golf magazine.

  4. Great YQMA guys. It’s cool that the Skype dual video takes the pain out of making an episode. I know splicing multiple video feeds is a major pain.
I’m sure I mentioned this on the last episode… I like longer episodes, say an hour or so. Reminds me of YQMA from back in the day.

  5. Another quality episode from Stogie Review. I’m glad to see the resurgence of YQMA. These are great segments and I wish I would have seen more of them when I was a novice; back when I drank Mt Dew with my cigars 😉 (only kidding Knigtrid). Wanted to comment on the lighter and cutter discussion. Some people, like myself, are collectors. I enjoy having a few different lighters and cutters around, I’m a bit of a freak like that, but none of them are high dollar ones. I know everyone badmouths Colibri, but I have one (only 1) and love it. It is a figurado, never had an issue with it at all, and it has been my “go to” lighter for more than 8 years now. In fact, I just ordered another one for a backup incase, god forbid, I lose this one.

Anyway, great as always!!!!!! Would like to see these frequently.

  6. Good to hear you talk about holes in the filler. I’ve been finding that A LOT lately. What the hell is going on with rolling these days. And it’s across brands.

Good to see you doing these again, btw. 🙂
