Paul Joyal, owner of Ocean State Cigars, introduced the J Grotto Series Reserve line to complement their well received J Grotto Series line of cigars. Blended to be a more robust flavor profile and higher in strength, the cigar was met with great success. The cigars use tobaccos that have been aged for 3 years and, after being rolled, are aged another 4 months. They do this to allow the tobaccos to rest with each other which helps the blend smooth out. While being a guest on the StogieGeeks.com podcast, Stogie Santa asked me if I had ever tried it, which I hadn’t. He graciously sent me some samples to try out. I had heard a good bit of buzz on Twitter about it already and was anxious to try it. I finally got around to doing a formal review of it, thankfully. The cigar wasn’t over complex. It had flavors of cedar, buttery nuts, spice with a nice creamy, sweetness. The strength was medium and the cigar has a nice long finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the flavors and consider it box worthy. Check out my video review for further details.
