We get started on our 2017 IPCPR tour of General Cigar’s offering with Steve Abbot, Brand Manager for Macanudo. He tells us about the new Macanudo Inspirado Black and Inspirado White, which follow after the Inspirado Orange with was launched in Europe back in 2015, and then last year in the U.S. The Orange is a medium-bodied stick, it was determined that the Inspirado line needed a milder and a fuller-bodied offering. That’s where the Insiprado White fit in, respectively.
The Inspirado White features and creamy Ecuadoran Connecticut Shade wrapper, an Indonesian binder and fillers from Jalapa and Condega in Nicaragua, as well as some Mexican San Andres. The Inspirado Black features a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper, Ecuadoran Sumatra binder, and Nicaraguan Esteli seco and ligero fillers. You can expect to pay in the range of $6.50 to $8.00, depending on the vitola you choose and your local taxes.
General did a little experimentation with the wrapper tobacco plants for this Inspirado Black. They planted them a little further apart, and pruned the top of the plant a little lower than usual. The result is the lower leaves are a little thicker, more powerful and sweeter than they would be in their normal pruning scheme.
