My Top 5 Cigars of 2007

Several months back a topic was started on our Fan Forums about our Top Cigars of the year. I think the original mention was for a list of 25 or so, but with the decisions being so difficult I decided to prune the list down to my Top 5.

With the new year starting tomarrow what better time to finially post my list of favorites.

My list is comprised of my 5 favorite cigars from 2007 (in descending order.)

5. El Cobre
El Cobre
This cigar is a Private label created by the Oliva Cigar Family. A brief description of this cigar would be an absolute stink pot. This stick makes up an aweful stink that just tastes great.

4. 601 Oscuro
601 Oscuro - 2
This is a cigar that I’ve been meaning to review but haven’t been able to squeak in due to the Bargain Cigar Breakdown I’ve been busy with. The flavors of this smoke are excellent and I look forward to reviewing it in the very near future.

3. Padron 1964 Anniversary
Padron 1964 Maduro
I love to light one of these up as a treat for myself from time to time. The complexity of this smoke definately keeps me on my toes. I seem to find something new and interesting every time I light one up.

2. Oliva Serie V Lancero
Oliva Serie V Lancero
I had the honor and pleasure of getting a hold of some of the pre-release vitolas from this line and loved them from the start. As some time progressed Oliva released the Lancero format and I immediately had to give it a try. For my tastes I think that this size is the best of what the V has to offer and I smoke it as often as I’m able to.

1. Ashton VSG
Ashton VSG
This is a cigar, for one reason or another, I’ve just fell in love with as of late. I’ve smoked a handful over the last couple of years but over the last couple of months this cigar just does it for me. I believe that there is a perfect cigar out there for everyone. While this cigar isn’t the perfect one for me, it is the closest that I have found thus far.

  1. 5. Padilla Obsidian. Bought these on a whim, luckily they turned out to be great cigars, regardless of the price, though for the little over two bucks you can ususally get them for off CI they are a steal. Wish they weren’t a torpedo though.

    4. Gurkha X-Fuerte Toro. Horrible construction but a taste that never fails to please.

    3. Joya de Nicaragua Antano Churchill. When I’ve had one of “those” days, this cigar never fails to plop me into nicotine bliss. On a full stomach of course.

    2. Camacho Corojo Limited 11/18. Wow, what a fantastic cigar. Smooth, strong, flavorful, complex. Absolutely fantastic. Luckily I’ve gotten a couple boxes off cbid for VERY cheap or I couldn’t afford these.

    1. Camacho Triple Maduro 11/18. I wasn’t expecting much thinking it was just a gimmick, but wow was I wrong. This cigar hit me on all my flavor cylinders. Not the most complex smoke out there, but with such a great flavor I’m OK hanging with it for a couple hours. Rich, creamy, smooth, and full bodied. Wish they were cheaper but I found a place that sold them for $120 a box. Even though that was more than I’d normally spend, I’ll suck it up for such an amazing smoke.
