Contest: Win a 5 Pack of Cain F Nub

Cain F Nub - 1

Last week I spent a little time with Dave Wagner, Vice President of Sales for Oliva. Between cigars and off topic conversation, Dave asked if we still ran contests here on Stogie Review. When I told him product wasn’t as forthcoming as it used to be, he handed me a box of Cain F Nub to give away.

Rather than give the whole box away in one shot, I’ve decided to break it up into five packs. For the first five pack, I’m asking for you to create a Stogie Review Best Of list. That list should be made up of five links, one post per author plus an additional post written by a guest.

Stogie Review Best of list:

  1. Best Post from Jerry
  2. Best Post from Walt
  3. Best Post from Brian
  4. Best Post from Mike
  5. Best Guest Post

After creating your list, post it as a comment. A winner will be selected at random (US Residents Only). One entry per person. Contest runs until Friday February 17, 2011. A winner will be selected and announced next weekend with their “Best Of” list featured.

  1. I am a newbie cigar smoker, and these are the reviews that I enjoyed. These also inspired me to give the cigars a shot.

Jerry’s Review of the Cabao Maduro: https://stogiereview.com/2009/11/09/cubao-maduro/

Walt’s review of the Cain F Nub (watched after I saw the contest):: https://stogiereview.com/2010/05/24/cain-f-nub-first-impressions/

Brian’s review of the Macanudo Cru Royale Robusto (as a newer smoker, and Macanudu being a milder brand, I have been trying them all): https://stogiereview.com/2010/12/22/macanudo-cru-royale-robusto/

Mike’s review of the Casa de Garcia (the best cheap stick at my B&M, under $2): https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/19/casa-de-garcia-connecticut/

Guest Review of Ave Maria Crusader (The band caught my eye): https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/12/ave-maria-crusader-guest-review/

    Thanks guys!

  2. 1. Best Post from Jerry: https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/04/tatuaje-verocu-5/
Love this review. It made my mouth water so much that I had to get some.

    2. Best Post from Walt: https://stogiereview.com/2010/10/21/drew-estate-dirty-rat-first-impressions/
Liga Privada is a great stick and Walt did a fantastic job reviewing it.

    3. Best Post from Brian: https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/03/oliva-serie-v-maduro-especial-2010/
I love Oliva and their great cigars. This cigar review by Brian was on the mark.

    4. Best Post from Mike: https://stogiereview.com/2010/03/12/el-triunfador-no-3-by-tatuaje/
As a Tat Whore, I was thrilled to see Mike review the El Triunfador.

    5. Best Guest Post: https://stogiereview.com/2010/12/17/vegas-robaina-famosos-guest-review/
I don’t know much about CCs so it is always good to see a review on them, especially one on a cigar by the late “Grandfather of Cigars”

    Thanks for the contest guys!

  5. 1> Jerry — https://stogiereview.com/2010/07/19/cao-hq-unveiled/
    — I was there that day and it was before I started following cigars through social media. I met a few twitter people there and really started reading reviews online.

    2> Walt — https://stogiereview.com/2010/10/12/epic-cigar-fail/
    — I have also left without my smokes and had to make a stop somewhere along the way to replace. I thought this was a great story about the generosity and kindness of fellow cigar smokers.

    3> Brian –https://stogiereview.com/2008/02/23/smokin-headlines-help-a-brother-out/
    — Another good post about winning a few nub

    4> Mike — https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/27/cao-vision-epiphany/
    — Solid review about a cigar I also enjoy.

    5> Guest — https://stogiereview.com/2010/12/17/vegas-robaina-famosos-guest-review/
    — Homer selection.

Keep up the great work guys!

  6. 1-Jerry’s Post. https://stogiereview.com/2010/08/10/padron-booth-at-ipcpr/ . This isn’t much of a review, but you have to laugh at a guy who calls himself a f-ing turd at the end. Plus I drool over Padron’s.
2-Walt’s Post. https://stogiereview.com/2009/12/26/selecting-and-using-cigar-cutters/ . Walt has a lot of good reviews, but this one every cigar smoker should read. I remember reading it, just took me a while to find it.
3-Brian’s Post. https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/03/oliva-serie-v-maduro-especial-2010/ . I’ll agree, these are great fresh, but better with age. Great review on one of my favorites.
4- Mike’s Post. https://stogiereview.com/2010/05/23/tatuaje-cojonu-2003-first-impressions/ . Your not the only one that can’t say it. I am right there with you.
5- Guest Post. https://stogiereview.com/2009/01/29/liga-privada-no-9-guest-review/ . A great review on and excellent cigar. Nice job Drew Estate.

    Thanks for the contest, Ron

  8. Jerry- https://stogiereview.com/2009/02/10/5-vegas-miami-knuckle/
Who could forget Jerry’s review of the Cinco Miami knuckle?? LOL

    Walt- https://stogiereview.com/2010/10/15/liga-privada-t52-flying-pig-by-drew-estates-first-impressions/
This really made me go and seek out the Pig and I absolutely loved it!

    Brian- https://stogiereview.com/2010/10/13/la-aurora-107-lancero/
Not enough people smokiing Lanceros these days.

    Mike- https://stogiereview.com/2010/08/21/mikes-humidor-tour/
Because I love checking out other people’s humis.

    Tom and Ed- https://stogiereview.com/2008/01/08/guest-review-of-the-dona-flor/
This was the review that introduced us all to the cigar review extraordinaire duo. Great 1st review of an awesome, under the radar stick. C’mon who doesn’t love these guys? they rule!! Would love to visit Ed’s shop.

  9. Walt- https://stogiereview.com/2010/10/12/epic-cigar-fail/ ……Shows what this site is all about and why this cigar community should never be abolished by law. That man who helped you out was the epitome of cigar brotherhood.

Jerry- https://stogiereview.com/2009/12/24/a-message-from-jerry-the-elf/ …..A truly classic post that will show the lengths at which show’s the Stogie Review’s teams efforts to entertain us. A great post from the site.

Brian- https://stogiereview.com/2010/09/10/brians-the-week-in-smoke/ ….The first of a brilliant idea. I think that even if people get a feel for the smokes, most of the ones they haven’t tried, they will still seek them out because of your short lived review. Also (I think) inspires people to smoke a wider array of smokes than what is just in their rotation.

    Mike-https://stogiereview.com/2010/06/29/women-of-cigar-expo-2010/…. Cigar Porn… or cigars and porn…. what’s the difference? 🙂

Guest-https://stogiereview.com/2010/05/18/cigar-and-wine-pairings-la-aurora-107-and-gnarly-head-zin/ …. I think that what a drink gives to a cigar is really important. Everyone drinks something when smoking a cigar. The drink pairings with a cigar are really interesting in seeing what goes with what. It would be cool to see sort of a double review of a craft brew like a nice IPA or Imperial Stout or a nice whisky with a cigar on the norm.

No matter what post was the best…each was still their own entertaining.

  10. Best Post from Jerry

    https://stogiereview.com/2007/01/26/vasco-da-gama-coronas-video/

And here you can see the post I put up that inspired the infamous Bottom 10 list that get’s Jerry in so much trouble. Well, I think it’s still a good idea but hey, it’s all good 🙂 Plus Jerry fighting a burning cigar sleeve is CLASSIC!!!!! T-shirt reivew ftw.

Other great Jerry classics are Cubao, MX3, Miami Knuckle, and another fab vendor hating classic, the https://stogiereview.com/2007/03/08/equus-limited-ligero/

    Best Post from Walt

    https://stogiereview.com/2008/09/09/tar-and-cigars-a-match-made-in-hell/

I was trying to find the one where someone commented on Wa’ts hair cut but ran across this one which I think is one of the most interesting articles done by Walt. The pictures are, and this is praise, horrific. That tar oozing out of a cigar is nasty. These pictures are aboslutely amazing and really tell the story.

    Best Post from Brian

    https://stogiereview.com/2007/09/19/primer-mundo-rosado-oscuro-perfecto/

“Honey Nut Cheerios” – I mean, come on. Who else besides Brian reaches back into palate memory far enough to get such decriptive flavors? Brian could double as a creative cigar crituque writter 🙂

    Best Post from Mike

    https://stogiereview.com/2010/08/21/mikes-humidor-tour/

I love humidor tours. Close seconds for Walt and Jerry are Jerry’s humidor tour and Walts how to make a coolidor.

    https://stogiereview.com/2008/10/16/guest-review-cifuegos-by-reyes-family/

Tom and Ed’s Cienfuego review. I hate the cigar, but his review inspired so many comments and other blogs to write and comment that it rockets to the top of my list. Plume, bloom, mold, whatever, Set fire to it and smoke it!!!

  11. Jerry- https://stogiereview.com/2009/11/26/davidoff-colorado-claro-special-t/. It was nice to see Jerry pop his Davidoff Cherry

Walt- https://stogiereview.com/2010/08/29/oliva-serie-v-liga-especial-blind-tasting/. I enjoy the blind tastings because it gives a complete unbiased look at a cigar without the band hyping up the taste.

Brian- https://stogiereview.com/2011/02/02/oliva-master-blends-3-robusto/. I was thinking to myself FINALLY when i saw this review posted. It was a long time coming and it is one of my favorites.

Mike- https://stogiereview.com/2010/01/16/rocky-patel-cameroon-especial/. A great start for a new face. Glad to see him become one of the regulars as he does a great job along with all the others.

Guest- https://stogiereview.com/2009/09/08/alec-bradley-tempus-terra-novo-guest-review/. Huge fan of the tempus as well and the write up was great.

Thanks guys for all the great reviews. Looking back through them really reminds me of all the hard work everyone has done over the years. Keep up the good work

  12. Jerry – https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/15/perdomo-lot-23-2/ Read this review while smoking my first Perdomo Lot 23. Great smoke, great review

Walt – https://stogiereview.com/2010/06/11/cao-la-traviata-maduro-pre-release/ Love the CAO La Traviata Maduro. My fav go-to smoke.

Brian – https://stogiereview.com/2008/07/26/saturday-supplemental-padron-1926-80th-anniversary/ Can’t go wrong with the 80th Anniversary and this review

Mike – https://stogiereview.com/2010/05/25/ashton-cabinet-selection-2/ Ashton Cabinets are epic. Nuff said

    Guest – https://stogiereview.com/2010/04/27/la-flor-dominicana-air-bender-guest-review/

  13. Jerry – https://stogiereview.com/2007/05/17/coronado-by-la-flor-dominicana/
Classic review. Great cigar. I think that in 07 the world wasn’t completely ready for the full bodied kick LFD offered with the Coronado. Don’t Puke, Jerry!

    Brian – https://stogiereview.com/2010/12/01/casa-fernandez-aganorsa-leaf-robusto/
Always nice to hear about small batch cigars when they come out so we can get an idea of what to expect when we finally come across them. This was one of my favorite releases of 2010.

    Walt – https://stogiereview.com/2010/04/09/viaje-reserva-platino-first-impressions/
Ditto. Love these sticks, so it’s always nice to hear what others think.

    Mike – https://stogiereview.com/2010/08/14/perdomo-cuban-bullet-version-2-0/
Good cigar. Nice write up along with the video.

    Guest – https://stogiereview.com/2009/11/17/el-museo-by-la-flor-dominicana-guest-review/
Still my favorite guest review. I know, I know, one of my own is weak, but I smoked it in honor of the birth of Jerry’s daughter. Always nice to hear when good stuff happens for good people.

  14. Jerry – His “Week In Smoke – TGT Edition” series (e.g., https://stogiereview.com/2011/02/02/week-in-smoke-tgt-edition-2/)
I just like the more informal sessions, the quick takes on his cigar choices, and random thoughts!
    Walt – https://stogiereview.com/2010/10/12/epic-cigar-fail/
This was a great story! (although his story about his son was pretty good too!)
    (also wins Most Disgusting Post:
    https://stogiereview.com/2008/09/09/tar-and-cigars-a-match-made-in-hell/)
    Brian – https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/17/tatuaje-monster-series-the-face/
This review started my rampage to finally try the Tatuaje Monster Series cigars!
    Mike – https://stogiereview.com/2010/08/21/mikes-humidor-tour/
Because it was just cool seeing it all!
    Guest – beaverc32’s https://stogiereview.com/2010/11/12/ave-maria-crusader-guest-review/
I really liked his review – made me want to get this cigar right away!

And let me add that this contest just introduced me to a part of your website that had remained hidden to me — your Fan Forum!!! Cool!

    Thanks guys!

  15. 1. Best Jerry post: https://stogiereview.com/2010/09/04/nording-by-rocky-patel-2/
I enjoyed reading this post because I enjoy Rocky Patel cigars and I love Erik Nording. I also appreciate the fact that Jerry reviewed/revisited this cigar and wrote a second (this one) review/post about it.

    2. Best Walt post: https://stogiereview.com/2010/10/12/epic-cigar-fail/
First and foremost: this post is hilarious. I love it because Walt brings the reader in by sharing a bit about himself and his family, which makes the reading experience more personable. Secondly I love the fact that Walt stated “I told him that I was in a bind and would have been more than happy with a couple of General Cigar products.” Hilarious!

    3. Best Brian post: https://stogiereview.com/2010/07/07/jaime-garcia-reserva-especial-robusto/
I always enjoy Brian’s writing style and format of his reviews. They are well done and it’s obvious that he takes great pride in reviewing cigars. I appreciate the review of this cigar because it’s one that I’m interested in trying but haven’t yet. After his thorough review I believe I will go purchase one.

    4. Best Mike post: https://stogiereview.com/2010/04/23/cao-gold-perfecto/
Even after General acquired CAO, the Gold still remains one of my favorite cigars. I’ll never forget the first time I tried one. I was on the back porch of my boyfriend’s parent’s house in subzero temperatures in full winter regalia. Needless to say, the Gold was a winner. I agree with Mike’s assessment that the cigar presents woodsy along with nutty undertones.

    5. Best Guest review: https://stogiereview.com/2009/11/17/el-museo-by-la-flor-dominicana-guest-review/
I chose this as the best guest review because this post is dedicated to the birth of Jerry’s daughter. I felt this was a very sentimental offering from the reviewer, and truly reflects what it’s like to be a part of the “Leaf Family.”

  16. There have been some great suggestions but for me this is the definative Stogie Review list!

Mike – JJ for JJ nuf said- https://stogiereview.com/2010/07/24/don-pepin-garcia-series-jj-natural-belicoso/
Brian – I like these better than the long fill – https://stogiereview.com/2010/05/05/tabacos-baez-serie-sf-corona/
Jerry – Jerry the Elf. Was there any doubt? – https://stogiereview.com/2009/12/24/a-message-from-jerry-the-elf/
Walt – Great review of a great smoke – https://stogiereview.com/2010/10/21/drew-estate-dirty-rat-first-impressions/
Guest – Tom and Ed gotta be on this list, this was memorable – https://stogiereview.com/2008/10/16/guest-review-cifuegos-by-reyes-family/
